IFCC ruminations
I spent Sunday morning at the 2008 International Contemporary Furniture Fair hosted at the Javits Center in New York City. The following day was spent looking at all the ephemera I had collected and following up with some of the people I had met. It gave me a chance to ruminate over the entire exhibition and this is what I came away with.
Everything was restrained, perfect, sleek, polished, and ready for prime time and maybe that's not such a good thing. Maybe it's because so much money is stake, maybe it's because we are in a self-consciously green moment...but I didn't see anyone taking any chances. I didn't see anyone pushing it so hard that there were a few ragged edges.
Is it possible to be extravagant and sustainable (profitable and/or green) at the same time?
